Fun things to do with your Pet this Summer

Posted by Holly Simonsen

What normally happens with your pets when you go to a BBQ, hang out by the pool, visit an amusement park, or go on a family vacation?  Normally, you leave them out, simply because they can't do whatever it is you're doing.  So while you're having a fantastic summer, your pet is stuck staying with a pet sitter that doesn't do much more than feed them, and occasionally take them out on walks.  That's something that you can't help, but you can make it up to your pet this summer by taking them out and doing pet-friendly activities.  Here are some fun things to do with your pets this summer.

1. Go to the lake and take your dog swimming.

Instead of lounging around a 'human pool', take your dog to the lake, where everyone can enjoy the cool water!

Idea: Bring a tennis ball with you, and throw it out (not too far!) in the lake for your dog to go and fetch. But you might want to bring extras, in case you discover that you're pet isn't the best at bringing them to you rather than abandoning them in the lake. :)

Some other things you can do with your dog at the lake:

  • If you're dog won't jump out of the kayak, try putting your dog in a kayak and going out for an adventure!
  • Some lakes have trails and hikes near them, so why not work up a sweat and take your dog for a nice walk, before jumping into the refreshing lake?

2. Take your dog for a run rather than a walk!

Dogs always love a good run, and by running with you're dog, you're getting

exercise yourself, as well as your dog!

3. Have a photoshoot with your dog or cat!

OK...this does seem wild.  But if your pet (and you) can make it through till' the end, it's definitely worth the cute and funny photos of your adorable pet.

4. Take a trip to a dog park

If any of you have experienced going to a dog park before, you know that it can be chaotic.  Yet through the eyes of your dog, it's a blast.  Take your dog to the dog park this summer, and experience the socializing of dogs, soaking in the life of a dog!  After all, it ;only seems fair that you take your dog to something fun this summer, instead of having him wait around until you come home from your summer fun!

*Don't forget to bring a portable water bowl and a water bottle for your dog!  It's important to keep them hydrated as they run around like crazy!

5. Pet Pool Day!

If you don't have a lake near you that you can bring your dog to, bring the fun to your own backyard!  All it takes is filling up a kiddie pool with water for your dog to have the time of their lives.
